In addition to Nerdicus Maximus on WVCW and All Your New Are Belong To Us on the Potboiler Podcasting Network, RVA has a new nerd-culture podcast, Life, Leave Me Alone. Who will rule in the RVA clash of the nerd podcasts ? Honestly you should listen to them all; they all have different styles.

Ever thought to yourself, “Man, I really wish the Mainstream and (digressions) would just download itself on my computer ?” Well your prayers have been answered. Both have been accepted and updated on iTunes and can be subscribed to!

Just because us at the blog have been slacking doesn’t mean you shouldn’t give the boys on the podcast your time!

GET AT THEM !! (like,… now)

Peep the new album covers!

The Mainstream,
The Mainstream Digressions

A continuation of The Mainstream (proper), this digression is one of the worst/ most fun podcast we’ve produced. This discussion of musicals in general leads to character voices, songs, and a duet by two of the host. Don’t miss a good time in this Mainstream (digression), entitled “The Musical Episode”.

(Don’t forget to check out this weeks Mainstream (proper) for all your arts news!)

The Mainstream,
The Mainstream Digressions

This episode isn’t so much an argument, but a search for definition. The boys of the Mainstream Digressions try to find the meaning of the word “adaption” as it pertains to art (especially movies [especially Spiderman]), bob-and-weave around spoilers, and share microphones successfully in this week’s digression entitled “Get’cho Lexicon Game UP!”

Tuesday’s podcast is also up, so get at that too! (we talked about First Friday!)

iTunes is being silly about it, but it works as far as we know. Tell us what you think about it ?

The Mainstream,
The Mainstream Digressions

We at the Mainstream (blog) understand that we’ve slacked on our pimpin’ this weekend, so to make up for it, here is last weeks edition of Mainstream Digressions.

Cory had been mauled by raccoons and is not on the show this time around (though he does make some odd faces throughout). Richard and Jeremy take up the torch in this weeks installment as they discuss the effects of the internet on the music industry today, in this session entitled “Death by Internet.”

Know how to spell or just want free tickets ? This is the event for you !

This episode is a screaming match, as Cory, Richard and Jeremy discuss the objectivity of art and how much influence the audience gets in art through the recent debacle of Mass Effect 3.

(The audio is funky, we still haven’t gotten the 3 mic system down yet.)

More info on the Mass Effect 3 situation:

Oh, the irony! In the week following our heated debate about the integrity and impenetrable fortress of authorship, all this happens:

Bioware decides to “answer questions” and “provide answers” with “content initiatives”; i.e., DLC that changes or clarifies the ending: http://blog.bioware.com/2012/03/21/4108/

Then…everyone gets pissed that they gave in. :P Kotaku writes an article in favor of the possible changes, declaring video games to be a “malleable artform” where the story is “truly” interactive: http://kotaku.com/5895369/why-im-glad-bioware-might-change-mass-effect-3s-ending-for-the-fans (super interesting argument, even though I disagree; read it when you get the chance).

Oh, and then the indie guys who made Frozen Synapse changed the ending to their game in protest: http://kotaku.com/5895829/mass-effect-3-outcry-answered-with-a-new-ending-for-a-completely-different-game

Is this a watershed moment for video games as an art form? No fucking clue. It’s surreal.

However, I do think that it’s important that people are finally discussing the importance of these things in the context of games. I’m glad we’re past “do games make children kill people?”

Somethin’ to chew on for your Saturday afternoon. :)

How ya’ll like the new logo ?

If you thought we would leave you for the relaxation of Spring Break without the second podcast, you’re wrong. This weeks installment of Digressions says everything in the title, “O, The Humanity!”

(Also, don’t forget to go to wvcw.org to listen to this weeks broadcast of The Mainstream (proper) for your weekend arts news.)

This exhibit opens tomorrow and runs through the end of the week in the Student Art Space— conveniently located in the VCU Student Commons. Whether you want to go on purpose or stop in while walking through on your way to class, this should be a site worth seeing.

The Pilot episode of the new arts podcast: The Mainstream Digressions.

New host Richard DiCicco isn’t just a handsome voice, but also an artist ! Check out his illustrations and reblogs at http://drawingboysandgirls.tumblr.com/ .

Today, or more importantly right now, marks the chrisening of The Mainstream (blog), a blog for the WVCW radio show.
